Roleplaying idea

I was thinking of doing an RP involving folklore creatures (selkies, hobgoblins, fairies...ect) most players would be non human. Given the nature of it, it may be easy to have people playing them in D&D but i dunno.

D&D would work as long as you allow for the Level Adjustment for the races. Depending on how you want to work it, you could try running it in the D20 Modern setting. It would be interesting and would make creatures like the players and magic itself far more unusual. Depending on when you want to set it there's also a book called D20 Past, for running D20 Modern within, say, the Victorian age or the Pulp 20's which you may want to check out.

I was thinking of doing it freeform, possibly on something like furcaidia, so that we could get everyone in one place at once.

We could try that, or we could do something on rpol or even this site (apparently this can be congiured into a play by post site without too much work) and just not use rules, or pretty hard and fast ones.
